WELLLLLLLLL…it’s been awhile. It’s been awhile since I’ve posted an interview, it’s been awhile since I’ve updated…but I’m happy to say that I am happily slamming on the brakes to give myself a much needed break. Adams Avenue Unplugged went SUPER well and I can’t wait to tell you allllll about it…but until then, let’s carry on with Grey Theory Mill’s killer interview with notTuesday!!
I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a sucker for color, simplicity, and geometry. Some might say ‘these things go hand in hand’, some might say, ‘yeah, and?’
I say, listen up.
1. Who are you/tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a maker of stuff. Most of said stuff is currently necklaces which I make by hand from polymer clay for my little label, “not Tuesday”.
2. What are some of your favorite things to do?
I like to sleep during the day – not that I get that many opportunities to do so, but it’s the best! For some light relief I like to flick through one of David Shrigleys books – his work is right up my alley. We luckily have a few on the bookshelf. I also like drinking beer.
3. How would you describe your artistic style?
Simple, bold, textural and colourful.
4. If you had to be trapped in a book, which one would it be and why?
The dictionary – love a good game of scrabble.
5. Where did the inspiration for your shop name, not Tuesday, come from?
Actually my daughter came up with it when she was 2 years old. At the time I was struggling to come up with a name and she was always talking about days of the week and asking me what day it was. Her reply, more often than not, would be “not Tuesday?”. Lucky she was around. Some of my other options were seriously awful.
6. What drew you to creating?
I’ve been creating in some form or another for forever. In terms of making a living from it, it coincided with having a baby. Having spent the past 10 years styling, I was ready to give up the photo shoots and do something that allowed me to stay home with my daughter, be a creative outlet for me and earn an income of some sort at the same time.
7. Do you have any other job aside from your awesome shop?
Not a paid one. But the mum/housewife thing takes up a hell of a lot of time.
8. What’s sitting on your desk right now?
My new computer. It’s a mac. I don’t know how to use it. My 4 year old has had no problem figuring out how to play games on it though.
9. What’s on your week’s to-do list?
I’m the opposite of practical. I don’t think I’ve ever made a to-do list. I prefer not to think about all the things that need to get done this week – hurts my head!
10. What words of wisdom could would you give to aspiring creatives wanting to take that next step :
Not very wise, but make stuff, draw stuff, paint stuff – whatever it is you want to do, just do it. The internet is a fabulous medium for testing the waters. Don’t copy others though. That’s just not cool!
Thank you, Rachel, for your willingness to be interviewed! Keep creating <3
